" MY TRIP TO SOUTHFORK"

ANOTHER STORY I HAVN'T TOLD YOU ABOUT THE USA.

WHEN ON HOLIDAY THERE ONE YEAR I WENT DOWN the SOUTHFORK WAY.

YES IN DALLAS TEXAS YOU'LL REMEMEBER THE SITCOM WELL.

WITH OLD JR AND FAMILY NOW MY TALE I'LL TELL.

I ARRIVED THERE IT WAS RED HOT ABOUT 31 DEGREES.

ME SISTER AND MY BROTHER-IN -LAW BELOW YOU'LL SEE ALL THREE.

TEXAS IS  A RED HOT STATE SO I HEADED INTO THE SHADE.

INSIDE THIS WONDERFUL GIANT STORE TO SEE WHAT THEY DID TRADE.

TWAS FULL OF BOOTS AND COWBOY HATS CLOTHES OF EVERY KIND.

I SUPPOSE YOU GUESSED ALREADY WHAT MOTHERHEN HAD IN MIND.

THE STOREKEEPER TOOK THIS PICTURE WHEN I'D PURCHASED THIS AND THAT.

WELL YOU GUESSED YES  MOTHERHEN I HAD TO BUY A HAT. HE-HE

SO MANY THERE TO CHOOSE FROM SO PURPLE WAS MY CHOICE.

THERE WERE LOTS OF HANDSOME MEN THERE TOO WHOO- HOO I LOVE COWBOYS. HE-HE.

BROTHER-IN -LAW WAS IN HIS GLORY TRYING HATS  ONE BY ONE.

COME ON I SAID PLEASE HURRY OR THE DAY IT WILL BE DONE.

THEN I STARTED DREAMING AND THOUGHTS CAME TO MY HEAD.

MY POOR LEGS THEY WERE ACHING SO TO MY SISTER SAID.

I'M GOING TO RING JOCK EWING UP AND ASK TO BORROW HIS CAR.

I WOULD  PROMISE TO STAY ON THE RANCH AND SAY I'LL NOT TRAVEL VERY FAR.

SO BELOW YOU SEE ME HERE FRIENDS READY TO DEPART.

ISN'T THE CAR A BEAUTY GLEEMING AND SO SMART.

SLOWLYI DROVE THE DUSTY TRACKS WAVING LIKE OUR QUEEN. HE-HE

JUST FOR A DAY ME  A STAR NOT JUST PLAIN  KATHLEEN.

I PULLED UP  AT  THE WONDERFUL HOUSE AND TWO PEOPLE PASSED ME BY.

A LITTLE BOY ABOUT EIGHT YEARS OLD WITH HIS DADDY CAUGHT MY EYE.

HOWDY !! SHOUTS THE LITTLE BOY  I KNOW YOU YOUR SUE ELLEN .

HE-HE  I THOUGHT FAME AT LAST I FELT  I WAS IN  HEAVEN.

CONTINUED ROUND THE BEAUTIFUL HOUSE SAYING OH! HOW I  DO WISH.

I REALY WAS SUE ELLEN I'D   MEET  BOBBY WHAT A DISH  HE-HE.

HERES A SNAP OF JR'S BEDROOM WHICH SUE ELLEN  DID SHARE.

I'D HAVE LOVED TO HAVE TRIED THAT BED OUT  BUT NO WAY I DIDN'T DARE HE-HE.

SO OVER I STROLLED TO THE SWIMMING POOL RELAXED AND  LAY IN THE SUN.

BEFORE I KNEW IT MY SISITER WOKE ME AND OH! WHAT HAD SHE DONE.

SHE HAD TAKEN MY DREAM AWAY FROM ME I DIDN'T WANT TO WAKE.

BEING SUE ELLEN FOR JUST A DAY WHY DID SHE HAVE TO TAKE.

ALL THOSE LOVELY THOUGHTS AWAY  YES WHAT A FABULOUS DAY .

I HAD IN DALLAS VISITING WHEN I WENT SOUTHFORK WAY.

I TRAVELLED THEN  TO THE RODEO BOY I HAD FUN OUT THERE .

WATCHING THE BUCKING BRONCO'S I WONDERED HOW THEY
DARE.

THEN ON TO SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS THE RIDES WERE ENORMOUS GEEEE!!.

NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WOULD I RIDE ON THEM NOT ME.

SISTER AND BROTHER-IN-LAW VENTURED I PRAYED MY HANDS CLASPED TIGHT.

WHEN THEY CAME OFF THE TITAN  GOSH THEY WERE GHOSTLY WHITE  HE-HE.

A BRILLIANT DAY WAS HAD BY ALL SO WE HEADED THEN BACK HOME .

PLANNING THE NEXT DAY OUTING TO FORT WORTH IS WHERE WE  ROAMED.

BACK IN ENGLAND NOW I AM BUT I'LL RETURN AGAIN SOMETIME.

TO SEE A BIT MORE OF TEXAS WHICH  IV'E SHOWN IN

                    " MY SIMPLE RHYME"

I think you've seen more of my country than I have.  I got to visit an uncle in Texas once, but didn't see anything but the bay there.  I used to watch Dallas all the time.  'On Ya' - ma

Wonderful rhyme as always Kath!  I always wanted to go to South Fork, lucky you!!!  I did love that show when it was on the air.  I never missed a week.  My goodness but we did love to hate JR didn't we, but I think it was a love/hate relationship, haha, for it just would not have ever been half as interesing a show without him in it!
love and hugs,
Marie

Once, back in the seventy's, Danny and I went with his parents to visit his sis in Texas...It was a very, very long trip ( by motor home )from Georgia, trust me. :-(

While there we visited Dallas which was only a couple of miles away. The whole time that we were Texas, I could not get over being able to see for miles because there were hardly any trees to block the view!
love ya,
carlene

What lovely cowboys eh?  Don't look much like the Lone Ranger do they?  It's nice to dream innit - ol' S'wellin' and breathless Barby.  No wonder JR and Mrs JR took so long to get little JR - in a bed that big they probably couldn't find each other!
love, Angie, xx

I expected to see you in the middle of those 4 fine lookin Texans, ROFLOL! Surprised they got you back home after that! ;)
Love to you,

As soon as I saw your title I thought "Dallas!!" .  What a fun entry and I really enjoyed the pics you put up as well.  I didn't know SouthFork could be visited like that.  How neat.
Thank you for your wonderfully kind & supportive comments.

Kath, you are one lucky motherhen!  I would love to go see Southfork.  It looks so grand and just like it did on tv.  Love the cowboy hat.  And you got to sleep by the pool?  Wow, how cool is that?  You are one pretty lady.  I could see why that little fella thought you were Sue Ellen.  I have to laugh because everything in Texas is supposed to be so darned big and that car is a big beauty.  Hope you are having a good weekend.  Love xx Chris

KATH,
I ENJOYED YOUR ENTRY OF DALLAS. I SPENT LOTS OF DAYS IN DALLAS DURING TIME DRIVING FOR GREYHOUND.
MY FIRST FEW YEARS ON THE 'EXTRA BOARD', AT TIMES MIGHT BE IN DALLAS TWO OR THREE DAYS BEFORE BEING CALLED FOR AN ASSIGNMENT. MY HOME BASE WAS TULSA OKLAHOMA. 300 MILES FROM DALLAS.
EXTRA DRIVERS WERE USUALLY FINANCIALLY EMBARRASED, AND OF COURSE I KNEW THE CHEAPER PLACES TO EAT.
SPEAKING OF 'FINANCIALLY EMBARRASED', I AM TALKING OF LEAVING TULSA WITH LESS THAN FIVE DOLLARS, CHILDREN AND WIFE AT HOME ALSO WITH ONLY A FEW DOLLARS UNTIL THE NEXT PAYDAY.
THERE WERE CYCLES WHEN EXTRA BUSES WERE JUST NOT NEEDED AND IF CAUGHT AWAY FROM HOME IN DALLAS, POCKET MONEY VERY LOW. THE 'STREET CAR CAFE' ACROSS FROM THE GREYHOUND GARAGE WAS THE PLACE TO GO.
WALK ALONG AND OBSERVE THE AVAILABLE FOOD IN THE 'STEAMER', ALL FOOD SORT OF GRAY WITH AGE THOUGH EDIBLE AND VERY CHEAP.
THAT WAS A LONG TIME AGO, DURING THE 1950s, MUCH TIME SPENT STROLLING EAST AND WEST ALONG THE THREE MAIN 'DRAGS' IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS.
I STEPPED INTO NEIMAN MARCUS ONCE TO SORT OF GET COOLED OFF, BROWSING AROUND IN MY WRINKLED SHIRT (HAD USED ALL MY EXTRA CLEAN SHIRTS), A NEIMAN MARCUS MAN FOLLOWED ME AROUND AND SEEMED NERVOUS AS IF NEEDED TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, FINALLY CAME NEAR AND SAID, WE HAVE A 'BARGAIN BASEMENT SECTION' DOWNSTAIRS.
ALSO NEAR THE GREYHOUND GARAGE WAS 'PAUL'S BARBEQUE'. WONDERFUL PLACE WHEN STILL HAVING MONEY IN POCKET. VERY REASONABLE PRICES.
BEING BROKE KEPT ME OUT OF MISCHIEF.
I MOVED OUR FAMILY TO SPRINGFIELD MISSOURI AND DID MUCH BETTER FINANCIALLY.        SAM
