"TO LEARN THEM TO RESPECT "

ANOTHER OF MY ARCHIVES RHYMES BEFORE I DO DELEAT.

AS I PRINT THEM OFF NOW J/LAND FRIENDS AND FILE THEM NICE AND NEAT.

SO I THOUGHT I'D  PLACE THIS ONE HERE AGAIN FOR ALL WHO HAVN'T READ.

I HOPE THAT YOU ENJOY AND IT BRINGS MEMORIES TO YOUR HEAD.

I WAS THINKING OF "THE GOOD OLD DAYS" WHEN I WAS JUST A KID.

SAT ALONE IN SILENCE ABOUT THE THINGS WE DID.

NO COMPUTERS PLAYSTATIONS OR BRAND NEW BIKES AND THINGS.

OWN TV OR MOBILE PHONE IN OUR POCKET THAT DOES RING

THE ONLY THING WITH WHEELS ON WAS A HOME MADE WOOD GO GART. HA-HA

BUT WE WERE GRATEFULL ANYWAY FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEART.

A PIECE OF ROPE TO STEER IT WITH NO BRAKES JUST USED YOUR FEET.

THE WHEELS DAD GOT FROM AN OLD USED PRAM AND A PLANK IT WAS YOUR SEAT.

WE THOUGHT WE WERE IN HEAVEN WHEN OUR DAD PRODUCED THIS TOY.

ALL OF THEM JUST BLAND OLD WOOD NOT COLOURS FOR GIRL OR BOY.

WE'D SET UP WACKEY RACES AND DOWN THE HILL WE'D GO.

TEARING VERY FAST WE WENT LIKE LIGHTENING NEVER SLOW.

SCREAMING AND LOUD SHOUTING ECHOED FROM OUR FRIENDS.

AND SUDDENLY ONE WOULD LEAVE THE TRACK WHEN FLYING ROUND THE BENDS. HE-HE

A TOY WE ALL WERE PROUD OF YOU NEVER HEARD US MOAN.

WE WERE THANKFULL FOR SMALL MERCY'S AND A REALY HAPPY HOME.

SKIPPING ROPES FROM WASHING LINES SPINNING TOPS AND SUCH.

NOT COSTING A SMALL FORTUNE AS OUR PARENTS DIDN'T HAVE MUCH.

YET STILL WE WERE SO HAPPY DOLLS MADE FROM A WOODEN PEG.

OUR PARENTS WORKED HARD EVERY DAY THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO BEG

IN THEM DAYS JUST FOR COPPERS (DIMES) ALL SPOKEN FOR EACH WEEK.

BUT KIDS AND FAMILIES HAPPYIER AND GRATEFULL SO TO SPEAK.

TREAT OF THE WEEK ON SATURDAY MORN AND OFF WE ALL WOULD GO.

RUNNING TO THE CINEMA TO WATCH THE WEEKLY SHOW.

FLASH GORDON AND THREE STOOGES  BOWERY BOYS AND ALL.

OUR ONE PENNY SPENT ON ENTRANCE AND WE REALY HAD A BALL.

MY FAVOURITES WERE THE LITTLE RASCALS SOMETIMES THEY WERE VERY BAD..

THE LITTTLE GIRL WAS FUNNY TOO HER HAIR IN RAGS SHE HAD. HA-HA.

DO YOU REMEMBER  ALFALFA  HA-HA  HERE IN THE PICTURE BELOW

HE ALWAYS HAD A PIECE OF HAIR STUCK UP AT THE BACK AND SO..

IV'E LAUGHED FOR MANY AN HOUR ABOUT THESE THINGS WE DID OF OLD.

AND MANY STORIES  ABOUT THIS GANG MY KIDS HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD. HA-HA.

WE WOULD SIT ON WOODEN BENCHES OUR EYES GLUED TO THE SCREEN.

NO PORN OR SEX AROUND KIDS THEN NOTHING WAS OBSCENE

WITH AN EXTRA PENNY  SPENT ON A  TINY LOAF I NEVER DID BUY SWEETS.

I LOVED MY PENNY HOVIS FRIENDS LOVED THERE OTHER TREATS.

PARENTS NOT AROUND US WE WERE SAFE ALL SEVEN DAYS.

KNOWONE WILL CONVINCE ME THEY WERN'T "THE GOOD OLD DAYS"

CHRISTMAS BROUGHT TWO GIFTS FOR US BENEATH A BRANCH FROM A TREE.

IF DAD WORKED OVER MANY HOURS WE MAYBE THEN GOT THREE.

AN APPLE AND AN ORANGE OR MAYBE A LITTLE GAME.

A PACK OF OLD MAID  PLAYING CARDS ALL WITH DIFFERANT NAMES.

WE'D ALL SIT ROUND THE TABLE MUM DAD AND MY SISTERS THREE.

PLAYING TOGETHER FOR HOURS ON END LIKE FAMILIES NOW  SHOULD BE.

WEEKENDS  WERE ALWAYS HAPPY SCHOOLDAYS  TOO WERE GOOD.

I DON'T THINK THESE TIMES WILL RETURN BUT I REALY WISH THEY WOULD.

IF WE DIDN'T DO AS WE WERE TOLD WHEN OUR PARENTS SAID.

WE GOT A REAL GOOD SMACK OR CLOUT AROUND OUR TINY LEGS.

NO WAS JUST A WORD WE DARN'T SAY ANY TIME OF DAY.

BUT WE HAD RESPECT FOR PEOPLE NOT LIKE THEY ARE TODAY.

THIS NEXT GENERATION NEED TO LEARN TO APPRECIATE AND RESPECT.

NOT ALWAYS ON THE WANT FOR MORE THEY SIMPLY JUST EXPECT.

ONCE MORE IV'E TAKEN YOU ALL AGAIN  WAY BACK DOWN THE LINE.

I HOPE YOU HAVE HAD A LAUGH MY FRIENDS  READING "MY SIMPLE RHYME."

                             THE OLD MAID PACK HE-HE-HE.

My little boy looks all amazed when I tell him that we didn't have computers or dvds when I was his age. Hmmmm...maybe we were better off. --Cin

I spent my childhood walking in pastures and dry creekbeds.  Computers?  Even if they'd been invented I doubt my mom would've allowed me to stay inside all day and look at one.  Oh well.

Once agan Kath you have brought a smile to my face and a song to my heart.  What a lovely trip down memory lane.  I am a bit younger than you, but I still remember the joys of simpler days as a child when we were safe to run about freely and had no worries.  We made our own entertainment and had fun doing it!  It was a lovely life.  We didn't have much but what we did have we appreciated!!!!!  I think we were really lucky to have experienced all that we have.  I feel sorry for the young people of today who will never know such pleasures.

Hi Kath,  (surprise suprise)

Those where the days when children used to know how to amuse themselves,  I can remember my brother getting a wollop of my mum for pinching the wheels of one of my sisters dolls pram to make a cart, LOL,

I cant remember the people in the films that you are talking about, but I do remember having a pack of old made cards for Christmas,  I agree with you the younger  generation do need to learn how to respect others,
take care Lynne xx

Thank you for the memories this morning.  It was a different world then for sure.  We lived in much simpler times.  I think it was a good time to be alive and we need to tell the stories for the next generation to come.  Thanks for the SMILES !  'On Ya' - ma

Ahhh what memories! It did my heart good yesterday to see a little boy pulling his sister (I presume) in a home made vehicle. He had mounted a laundry basket on a skate board and attached a rope to pull her around. They were having so much fun in between rains. I remember Flash Gordon and so many of the things you mentioed. Thanks for the memories, paula

Loved that, Kath. reminded me of a wartime childhood in Cumberland.  The owner of the go-kart was the leader of the pack !

SO TRUE!!!
So very true Kath, Sometimes I wonder what will become of this generation & the next. They seem so absorbed in material things. :(
Have a good weekend.

I loved this! :o) It brought back good memories. :o) We never got things either and 3 presents at Christmas. We had such respect for our elders too...we knew better. With all of the things they have now it is kind of scary for my future! No thankful nor respectful....sad. But I'll do my best with my grandkids as I did with my own. :o) Many hugs Kath!

I think I love this post of yours the best, which says a lot because they are all so terrific. This one though, allows me to take a memory walk, which as you know, is one of my favorite things to do. I so admire your talent, your wit, your humor and love for life. It is always such a pleasure visiting here.
Big hugs, and love too,

Oh those memories and we were so very happy. Did you ever get an old stocking with a ball placed inside then you played with it up against a wall standing with your back to to the wall (hard to explain that one) that was one of my favourites.  RESPECT  I think that word hase been deleted for our language. Thanks for a happy few minuets.

Hi Kath, I'm trying to get myself caught up.  Boy, do I remember those good old days.  Your childhood sounds much like mine with the movies on Saturdays, and the card games around the table.  We played Old Maid and Go Fish for hours on end.  We always made our own toys.  I made doll beds, etc. out of shoe boxes and other boxes.  Life was so much simpler that way.  We were lucky to have a tv let alone all the electronics now.  I also don't think things will ever go back to the quieter lives we used to have.  What a shame.  Love xx Chris

This is lovely, what a nice trip down memory lane.  I love the picture of the wooden doll, I have never seen one of them.  My prized doll was a handmade Raggedy Ann doll - I just loved her so.
